Miles in Tokyo is a live album recorded on J, by the Miles Davis Quintet (featuring Sam Rivers, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock and Tony Williams) at the Tokyo Kōsei Nenkin Kaikan, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. Walkin' is a Miles Davis compilation album released in March by Prestige Records. The album compiles material previously released on two 10 inch LPs in (Miles Davis All-Star Sextet and Side One of Miles Davis Quintet, dropping "I’ll Remember April" from Side Two (which had been on the 12” LP Blue Haze, released the previous year, itself a collection of tunes from previous 10” LPs) and Genre: Jazz, hard bop.
The partnership of Miles Davis and Sam Rivers may have been short-lived, but it did produce the live album Miles In Tokyo. The record is a rare jewel in Miles Davis' discography, featuring high-energy live versions of songs by Rodgers & Hart, Cole Porter, and Richard Carpenter, as well as a restlessly fast-paced take on the Davis staple "So What".
